A Batalden Ethos

A way of life shaped by time, tradition, and a profound respect for nature. Nurtured and carried forward through generations it is a living inheritance.

The land is not ours to possess, but to protect. We care for it as our ancestors did: attentively, patiently, and with deep respect.

Stewards of the land

Through our practices of protection and active land management, we aim to foster a resilient, biodiverse, and culturally meaningful environment.

We hold a belief in a quieter kind of luxury, our arcitectural approach blends into the landscape rather than disturbs it - leave no trace is ingrained in our philosophy.

In Batalden we honor the skills passed down through generations. The sheep herding, the sustainable hunting, and the traditional food preservation.

Honoring tradition

We aim to offer our guests an opportunity to engage with an authentic and evolving heritage. A landscape and practice shaped by both ecological processes and cultural legacy.

Keeping the land healthy and productive is at the heart of our practice. This is our way of life and our philosophy.

Seasonal Harmony

The rhythm of nature guides our days. We plant, harvest and hunt in tune with the earth's cycles. Each season has its own pace and purpose that we would love to share with you.

We believe in food gathered thoughtfully, locally sourced, in season and preserved with care.

In our homestead this means fishing, setting crab pots, harvesting mussels and seaweed, foraging for wild berries, herbs, and mushrooms.

We dry fish, cure meats, ferment vegetables, and pickle seasonal treasures, honoring the knowledge passed down through generations.

These traditions help us live lightly, waste little, and carry the essence of each season into the next.
